More than 5,000 technical students and professionals got employment opportunities at bdjobs’ technical job fair.
On Tuesday, the country's biggest job fair 'bdjobs Karigori Chakri Mela' was held at Mirpur PSC Convention Hall in Dhaka.
bdjobs.com, in collaboration with a2i and BRAC Skill Development Institute, organised the job fair to recruit more than 5,000 people for 410 positions in 61 leading companies of the country, said a statement.
The fair was inaugurated by Md Ziauddin, Member (Coordination and Assessment) of the National Skill Development Office at the Prime Minister's Office. AKM Fahim Mashroor, Founder and CEO of bdJobs, presided over the event.
Fahim Mashroor said, “In the current job market, the demand for technical students is much higher than students in general education. Many technical students get jobs before they pass, and the pay is good.”
“But still many are not getting educated in technical education due to lack of awareness,” he added.
Dr Md Ziauddin said, “Our country has a total labour force of 82 million, besides, about 2.2 million people are entering the labour market as newcomers at a rate of 2.2 per cent.”
“The government is working to improve the skills of the labour force through about 7,000 educational institutions and about 6,000 private level institutions under 35 departments of 23 ministries of the country,” he added.
He also said that about 1.7 million young men and women are getting training in various professions every year. But due to a lack of matchmaking between the supply side (training institutes) and the demand side (industrial institutes), its benefits were not fully available.
Bangladesh Technical Education Board Chairman Md Ali Akbar Khan, and a2i Strategy and Innovation Specialist Asaduzzaman spoke as special guests at the event.
Md Ali Akbar Khan said that there is no alternative to technical education for the overall development of the country.
He said, “No technical education student will be unemployed. But this requires regular practice. Because, apart from studying, a student gets success through practice in related subjects.”
Various seminars were conducted at the fair so that the technical staff could easily present themselves to the companies and prepare themselves according to the company's needs.
