Some 1,000 women entrepreneurs received a total of Tk5 crore from the government’s Idea project on Thursday, marking the 75th birth anniversary of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Speaker of the parliament Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury handed over the cheques while each of the entrepreneurs got Tk50,000 during a programme at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the capital.
The women entrepreneurs were members of E-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (E-CAB), Women and E-Commerce (WE), Ananda Mela, Women Entrepreneurs of Bangladesh (WEB), SME Foundation, BRAC, Thengamara Mahila Sabuj Sangh (TMSS) and ekShop of a2i.
“Bangladesh has become a role model for women’s empowerment and gender equality due to initiatives taken by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The ICT division has played an outstanding role for 78,000 women in the She-Power Project,” the Speaker said.
ICT Department Senior Secretary NM Ziaul Alam and e-CAB President Shomi Kaiser also spoke on the occasion chaired by the State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak.
