Health authorities have extended the deadline for administering first and second doses of Covid-19 vaccine for three more days aiming to ensure vaccination of mass population.

Additional Director General of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Prof Dr Ahmedul Kabir disclosed the matter during a virtual press briefing on Monday afternoon.

People across the country responded positively as the health authorities have extended the deadline for three more days even after the closure of special inoculation drive, he said.

Prof Kabir said that people who are yet to get the vaccine, can avail one dose on October 4,6 and 8 at specific centres.

According to DGHS, in the previous six-day special inoculation drive over one crore people received vaccines. Among them, 602,048 people got the first doses and 1,504,638 received the second doses. Besides, over 8 million people received the booster doses during this time.

Line director of DGHS and member secretary of the vaccination deployment committee Dr Shamsul Haque, said that no further campaign to provide first and second doses will be arranged.

But the second doses for those who would take the first dose during the special inoculation drive, will be ensured in the hospitals, he said.

“We are getting huge response from people as the deadline has been extended. The local authorities will be informed over the matter today (Monday),” he added.

Replying to a question, he said that DGHS has enough stock of vaccine and necessary supply to the local units has been ensured.
