Alpha Islami Life Insurance has recently crossed the Tk100 crore mark in policy sales within nine months of starting operation.
Commending the company’s achievement, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam said Alfa Islami Life has achieved good success in a short period of time despite being a new company.
He made the remarks while addressing a grand dinner party, organised by Alfa Islami to mark the company’s achievement, as its chief guest on Saturday night at Gulshan-1.
The state minister said Alfa Islami Life Insurance can be a role model for the insurance sector in the future if it proceeds efficiently by making use of the economic opportunities in accordance with appropriate laws.
He further said, “If the domestic insurance companies do not operate properly, they may become dependent on foreign big investors which is not desirable for the country.
“Some insurance companies have tarnished the reputation of the sector,” Shahrier said, urging Alfa Islami authorities to work in accordance with the law to restore the sector’s reputation.
Meanwhile, presiding over the event, Alfa Islami Life Chairman Alamgir Shamsul Alamin (Kajal) responded to the state minister’s call.
He said, “I have instructed the management of Alfa Islami Life Insurance to conduct business in compliance with all regulations. Work is going on the basis of professionalism and in complete compliance with the law and guidelines of the Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA).”
“We will not do any business violating rules and regulations,” Alamgir, who is also the president of Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB), added.
He also said the company has been able to attain the business achievement of selling policies worth Tk100 crore in nine months due to honesty and efficiency.
IDRA members Kamrul Hasan and Md Nazrul Islam said there have been no complaints from from customers against the company so far.
Alfa Islami Life Insurance is making fast payment of death claims within seven days, they said, adding that they expect the system of compliance with law to continue.
A total of 1400 representatives of Alfa Islami Life Insurance from all over the country participated in the event, where the company’s Chief Executive Officer Noor Alam Siddique highlighted various issues of the company in the event.
