Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun called on stakeholders to maintain international standards of local products from production to distribution to ensure sustainability in the global market.
Bangladesh has attained a global standard in goods production and should maintain the products’ quality to sustain in the world market, the minister said on Sunday while virtually addressing a programme commemorating the World Standards Day 2022 in the capital.
The Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) organised the event at its office on the day. The World Standards Day was globally observed on 14th October with the theme ‘Shared vision for a better world - Standards for SDGs’.
Minister Nurul Majid said, “Our medicine has Played a vital role in the world market.
“There is a huge opportunity in the medicine market, so we should handle the quality of our product standardly and more sincerely.”
Also speaking on the occasion, State Minister for Industries Kamal Ahmed Majumder said the demand for the standard certificate is increasing at a consistent pace across the world.
“It is necessary to ensure product certificate standards to ensure sustainability in the world market as well as the safety and security of our generation,” he said, adding that the government has taken steps to maintain product standards.
Meanwhile, Industry secretary Zakia Sultana called for maintaining product quality from the production to distribution of the goods to boost the local economy as well as strengthen food capacity.
Currently, 229 products are under the compulsory Certification Marks (CM) of BSTI, meaning marketing of any of these items needs conformity certificate of Bangladesh Standard from the organisation.
Echoing the industry minister’s sentiments, Md Jashim Uddin, president of The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), said “Bangladeshi products are now available in many countries, so we have to strengthen the quality and standard of our products.”
Presiding over the programme, BSTI Director General Janendra Nath Sarkar called on businessmen to cooperate with BSTI to ensure product quality.
