The ready-made garment (RMG) sector is giving utmost priority in productivity enhancement as it prepares for the next phase of development, said Faruque Hassan, president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).
“Bangladesh’s apparel industry has immense potential for growth. We are making all-out endeavours to seize every opportunity that lies ahead where productivity enhancement is a key priority area as we are preparing for the next phase of development,” he said.
The BGMEA president made the remarks while addressing the closing ceremony of the Network to Integrate Productivity and Occupational Safety and Health (NIPOSH) as its chief guest on Monday at the Westin Hotel in Dhaka, according to a press statement.
Faruque said the BGMEA established the Centre of Innovation, Efficiency and Occupation Safety and Health Improvement (OSH) at the BGMEA Complex that works on productivity improvements, Industrial Engineering, product development, industry 4.0, etc.
The NIPOSH project aimed to develop a network of professionals in the RMG industry and build a strong connectivity amongst the factories.
The project was funded by the Embassy of Denmark in Bangladesh, with the collaboration of University of Southern Denmark and BGMEA. Centre of Efficiency, innovation and OSH, and Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology jointly implemented the project.
A total of 25 factories were onboarded in the project, the press statement said, adding that NIPOSH is developed to ensure a conducive learning environment for the factories.
A total 10.87% efficiency improvement in intervention time in factories and OSH improves 19.83% in the intervention time in factories, it stated.
BGMEA will now continue the project’s work under a new name to support its member factories and continue the momentum.
Winnie Estrup Petersen, ambassador of Denmark to Bangladesh, attended the ceremony as the guest of honour while Prof Dr Muhammad Fazli Ilahi, vice-chancellor of AUST, were present on the occasion as a special guest among others attendees.
