4A Yarn Dyeing joins Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action

4A Yarn Dyeing Ltd, a concern of Team Group, has joined the Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action convened by the UN Climate Change as the first outwear manufacturing company of the world.

By signing the Charter, 4A Yarn Dyeing is now committed to a 50 per cent absolute reduction of GHG emissions by 2030 and aims to achieve net zero by 2050, said a press release.

The Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action recognises the crucial role that fashion plays on both sides of the climate equation; as a contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, and as a sector with multiple opportunities to reduce emissions while contributing to sustainable development.

Aligned with the goals of the Paris Agreement, the Charter contains the vision for the industry to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 and defines issues that will be addressed by signatories, ranging from selection of climate friendly and sustainable materials to decarbonization of the production phase.

To make concrete progress on these commitments, several technical working groups have been established in which signatories work to define steps for implementation.

4A Yarn Dyeing Ltd has become a member of the Working Group-3 (Manufacturing/Energy) and Working Group-4 (Policy Engagement).

Team Group Managing Director Abdullah Hil Rakib said, “4A Yarn Dyeing Ltd is very much committed to sustainable production and it’s also one of the trendsetting companies in Bangladesh taking actions for low carbon apparel manufacturing. Bangladesh as you all know is one of the most vulnerable countries of the world to climate change. We joined the Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action as we want to be a part of the solution to global warming and climate change, and collaborate with other key stakeholders to succeed in combatting the climate change.”

President of BGMEA Faruque Hassan said, “BGMEA is a supporting organization of Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action. Now, BGMEA member factories are lining up to join the Charter.”
