Dengue death tally surpasses last year’s

With seven more deaths on Wednesday, the country exceeded last year’s death tally from dengue infection.

Some 864 people got admitted with dengue fever to various hospitals across the country in the last 24 hours till 8:00 am Wednesday.

On the day, Bangladesh recorded 106 deaths from the viral infection this year. In 2021, the number of total deaths was 105, according to the data from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

This is the highest death tally after 2019 and the second highest in the last 22 years, data from the disease control unit under the DGHS said.

Although the running month is yet to be completed, October has already recorded the highest number of 51 deaths from dengue this year.
