An unmanned cargo vessel has washed ashore at Saint Martin Island of Cox’s Bazar.

The abandoned vessel which was sighted around 2:30pm on Monday got stuck at the western part of St Martin’s Island, said Mujibur Rahman, chairman of St Martin’s Union Parishad.

“The cargo ship was washed ashore because of the effects of cyclone Sitrang and the tidal current. Numerous containers and other items are present there.”

He said, “Locals are thronging to see the massive ship. We could not determine where the ship came from and which country belonged. However, it is clear that the ship does not belong to Bangladesh, the chairman added.

“The contents of some rooms are unknown as they are locked.”

The local administration has already been informed and they will look into the matter, he said.
