The third convocation of Premier University in Chattogram was held at the Navy Convention Hall in Tiger Pass area in the port city amid much fanfare and festivity.

A number of 5697 graduates received their certificates at the convocation held on Sunday morning.

Deputy Minister of Education Barrister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury presided over the third convocation as a representative of President Abdul Hamid, the chancellor of the university.

The Convocation Speaker was eminent educationist and writer Professor Dr Pabitra Sarker, also former vice-chancellor of Rabindra Bharti University in India.

Pabitra Sarkar said, “Do we learn only in schools and colleges? Does our education begin at a certain age, in a house designated by the state or society, to people of a certain livelihood? We all know it does not.”

“I have studied a little in linguistics; I know that when a baby is in the mother's womb, at seven months, he or she can distinguish the mother’s voice from the voice of others. That is his or her first lesson,” he added.

“After the convocation, all become students of the open academy of the world. There are no particular textbooks or reference books, but a huge classroom and tonnes of tests,” Sarkar said, adding, “I hope all of you pass all the exams of life like university exams with ease, brightening the faces of your parents and teachers. I hope you enrich society by achieving success in your work.”

Bangladesh Accreditation Council Chairman Professor Dr Mesbahuddin Ahmed, Bangladesh University Grants Commission member Professor Dr Md Abu Taher, Professor Dr Biswajit Chand, and Professor Dr Sajjad Hossain, among others, also addressed the convocation.
