14th GABV summit kicks off today in Dhaka

A three-day-long 14th annual meeting of the Global Alliance for Banking on Values (GABV) is set to begin today in Dhaka.

The meeting will be held in Radisson Blu Dhaka in with participation of more than 50 delegates from member-banks of GABV, said organisers of the summit in a press conference on Monday.

Bangladesh Parliament Speaker Shirin Sharmin Choudhury will inaugurate the summit as its chief guest. This is the second time GABV is holding its annual summit in Bangladesh. Speaking at the press conference, Selim RF Hussain, CEO of BRAC Bank, a member of GABV, said, “We believe through this annual meeting, we would be able to disseminate the message to a larger audience and sow the seed of sustainable banking movement in Bangladesh and beyond.”

“We will continue to work with GABV to adopt best practices and pursue values-based banking for a sustainable future,” he added.

Also speaking at the event, David Reiling, CEO of Sunrise Banks (USA) and Chair of the GABV said, “This is the first global in-person meeting since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. We are coming together to discuss how to respond as a movement in the face of the multiple crises shaking the world.”

GSBV is a network of 70 independent banks, credit unions and microfinance institutions from 43 countries. This year’s meeting will be held with the theme ‘From Perspectives to Action: Transformational Practice in Action’.
