Over 400 top programmers gather in Dhaka

Over 400 of the world’s most promising coders have gathered in Dhaka this week to compete in the 45th International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) World Finals.

This mega event of promising programmers will lead to the emergence of a world champion and nine other winning teams on November 10 after the completion of a number of stages in the contest.

The event kicked off on November 6 with the arrival of around 450 contestants in 137 teams from some 70 countries and over 1,200 guests from around the world, making it one of the world’s top programming contests.

After various warm-up events and activities in the first two days, the contestants will compete in teams of three, each representing a university, to solve real-world problems with algorithms.

ICPC World Finals is being hosted by the University of Asia Pacific, the government’s ICT Division and Bangladesh Computer Council along with Huawei.

The International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) is a premium algorithmic programming contest platform meant for academia, industry and young professionals to inspire them to pursue excellence in computing. Leading global ICT infrastructure provider Huawei Technologies Limited is the Diamond sponsor of this event.

Dr Michael J Donahoo, Deputy Executive Director of ICPC World Finals said before the opening ceremony, “The ICPC community focuses on providing opportunities for students of computing to train hard and compete with the best of the best. The ICPC World Finals is a celebration of these students and the global network of volunteers that make great competition possible.”
