11.6m people capable of paying taxes: NBR

At least 11.6 million people in Bangladesh have the ability to pay taxes, but the reality is known to all, National Board of Revenue (NBR) Member (Tax Information Management and Services) Mohammad Jahid Hasan has said.

“The business community is the partner of NBR, and the revenue board is relentlessly working on reforms and modernisation of various regulations to ease the process of doing business,” he told a workshop on “Customs, VAT and Income Tax management” in Dhaka on Saturday. The event was organised by Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI).

In 2021, only 25.30 lakh taxpayers submitted their returns out of 8.3 million TIN holders, which is unsatisfactory, according to a press release.

The workshop was organised aiming to let the business community aware of different changes in the customs, VAT and tax-related issues in the budget.
