ACC sues couple over Tk 4.79cr illegal wealth

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed two separate cases against a couple for allegedly amassing illegal wealth worth Tk 4.79 crore.

Deputy Director Ali Akbar filed the cases with ACC’s integrated district office in Dhaka-1 on Monday, said the anti-graft body’s spokesperson M Arif Sadiq. According to case details, an ACC investigation found that Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital administrative officer Zakir Hossain has amassed illegal moveable and immovable wealth worth Tk 2.80 crore over the years.

Meanwhile, his wife Shafali Begum, a nursing supervisor at the National Institute of Kidney Diseases and Urology in Dhaka, has also amassed illegal wealth worth Tk 1.99 crore. After analysing the couple’s wealth statements, ACC officials also found that they concealed information about wealth worth Tk 1.43 crore in the statements.

The graft cases were filed against the couple under several sections of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act and the Money Laundering Prevention Act.
