Int’l leather expo starts Dec 7

The 8th international trade show on machinery, components, chemicals and accessories for leather, footwear and leather products, Leathertech Bangladesh-2022, is set to begin on Wednesday at Expo Zone of International Convention City, Bashundhara (ICCB) in Dhaka.

ASK Trade & Exhibitions Pvt Ltd is organising the three-day long trade show where nearly 200 exhibitors from 10 countries, with Council for Leather Exports (CLE) & Indian Footwear Components Manufacturers Association (IFCOMA) pavilion from India, will take part.

The Leathergoods and Footwear Manufacturers & Exporters Association of Bangladesh (LFMEAB) President Syed Nasim Manzur made the discloser at press conference on Monday in the city hotel. LFMEAB Secretary General Major (rtd) Md Rafiqul Isalm and director of ASK Trade and Exhibitions Pvt Ltd Nanda Gopal K were also present at the briefing.

Nasim Manzur said they are lagging behind the global competitors due to poor supply chain and the ineffective central effluent treatment plant (CETP) at Savar Tannery Palli (Tannery Industrial Estate).

He also said, “Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi is expected to inaugurate the expo on December 7. We have a lot of rawhide but we cannot utilise them properly due to a lack of modern technology, skilled manpower, and also BSCIC’s ineffective steps.”

“If we want to increase export of leather goods, we must provide our products at reasonable prices maintaining quality to sustain in the global market,” he also added.
