Education Minister Dipu Moni on Monday said there are seven lakh more seats available in colleges than the number of students who passed the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams this year.

She said Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) admission tests would be held as per the rules.

Everyone clearing the SSC exams this year would have a place in college and there is no chance they would fail the entrance exams, said the minister.

She came up with the remarks after inaugurating the liberation war victory fair at Chandpur Outer Stadium.

The minister said, “All our educational institutions have trained and qualified teachers. There is no chance students will fail the admission tests.

“Our country has some institutions that select the best students. When the most brilliant bunch gets together, they perform a lot better.”

Dipu also urged parents to monitor their children’s behaviour to ensure they do not choose any wrong path. “If we all do our duties properly, students will be able to build their future.”

On November 28, 87.44 per cent of candidates obtained passing grades in this year’s SSC and equivalent examinations, down from 93.58 per cent in the previous year.

The nine general education boards saw a combined pass rate of 88.1 per cent, the madrasah education board 82.22 per cent, and the technical education board 89.55 per cent.
