Family, society, and people from all walks should come forward to end violence against women and the need to change the mindset of people in this regard was underscored.
They made the observations in an art exhibition organised by Plan International, Bangladesh Thursday afternoon at the Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur campus marking “16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence” campaign.
Around 150 children and youths from different districts of Rangpur Division, who were mostly school, college and university students took part in the event. The programme aims to highlight the various aspects of violence against women so that youths are aware and can contribute to ending violence against girls and women in society.
Pro-Vice Chancellor of Begum Rokeya University Rangpur Professor Dr Sarifa Salowa Dina graced as the chief guest while Head of Gender and Development Studies Department Mir Tamanna Siddika chaired the event. Director of Secondary and Higher Education Department of Rangpur Region Professor SM Abdul Matin Lashkar, Deputy Director (In-Charge) Women Affairs Department of Rangpur, Saloara Begum, President, Rangpur Press Club Mahabub Rahaman Habu and Programme Manager of Plan International Bangladesh Dr Hrishikesh Sarker were present the event as guests of honour.
Some selected 10 artworks of the participant artists were displayed in the exhibition and of them, three were awarded as 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.
