The education ministry on Wednesday started drives against charging extra admission and readmission fees in different schools and colleges across the country.

Amid allegation of taking extra admission fees, the education ministry has formed four monitoring committees to prevent irregularities during admission into the educational institutions, said education ministry’s spokesperson MA Khair.

“Besides, Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) has formed 16 more monitoring committees while eight divisional monitoring committees have been formed in divisional headquarters and 55 district monitoring teams in district headquarters,” he added.

“Appropriate actions will be taken as per the rules if any irregularities are found against any institution,” said

MA Khair.

The members of the monitoring teams have already started visiting different government and private schools and colleges across the country to prevent the irregularities.

Education ministry sources said a team led by Deputy Secretary Mizanur Rahman on Wednesday visited Green Field School and College, Hope International School, Monipur High School and College, Chetona Model Academy, Mirpur Girls Ideal Laboratory Institution to check the irregularities.

Another team led by Deputy Secretary Abu Sayeed Md Fazle Elahi visited Banani Bidyaniketan School and College, Shaheed Anwar Girls’ School and College, Preparatory Grammar School, and Cosmo School in Dhaka.

Apart from this, two other committees led by Deputy Secretary Forhad Hossain and Deputy Secretary Abdullah Al Masud visited Shamsul Hoque Khan School, Bonoful Adibashi Green Heart College, SOS Hermann Gmeiner College and Shaheed Police

Smrity College.

Besides, 16 monitoring committees formed by the DSHE are visiting educational institutions in Dhaka city while divisional monitoring committees and district monitoring teams are also visiting schools at divisional and district level.

Upazila monitoring committees are also visiting the upazila-level educational institutions to prevent extra

admission fees.

There are allegations against the educational institutions that they are taking additional admission fees from the students defying the government fixed fees.
