Unique Group Managing Director Mohd Noor Ali on Thursday hoped that Bangladesh will earn fame in the global arena through sports.

Sports can be a big medium to uphold Bangladesh’s image in the world like Maradona and Messi have introduced their country across the globe, he said at the inaugural function of the Bangabandhu Asian Central Zone U-23 Men’s International Volleyball Championship 2022 at the Shaheed Suhrawardy National Indoor Stadium in Mirpur.

“I believe volleyball will also become popular in Bangladesh like cricket and football through arranging such events and Bangladesh will be able to achieve success in the game at the international level,” he said.

Mohd Noor Ali also assured of providing the Volleyball Federation with all kinds of support to reach Bangladesh’s volleyball to the international level like cricket. Teams from Sri Lanka, Nepal, Kyrgyzstan and host Bangladesh are taking part in the Bangabandhu Asian Central Zone U-23 Men’s International Volleyball Championship 2022, powered by the Unique Group. The tournament will continue till December 26.

Local Government and Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Md Tazul Islam launched the tournament as the chief guest.  Bangladesh Volleyball Federation President Atiqul Islam, also Dhaka North City Corporation mayor, and local lawmaker Elias Uddin Mollah were also present at the function.

Minister Tazul Islam said Bangladesh has successfully organised a lot of such international events. Through organising such volleyball tournaments, Bangladesh will move forward, he added.

Mayor Atiqul Islam said he expects Bangladesh will become the champion in this tournament. “We are working to popularise volleyball in the country and contest at the international level. We will continue to organise such international tournaments in the country,” he added.

The Bangladesh Volleyball Federation will also host Bangabandhu Asian Central Zone Men's and Women's International Beach Volleyball Championship 2022 on December 27-30 in Cox's Bazar, organisers said.
