Campaigning in the Rangpur City Corporation election is set to end on Sunday midnight amid enthusiasm.
Rangpur city will go to the polls to elect a mayor on December 28.
Security has been beefed up on three-tiers to ensure a free, fair, and peaceful election.
The Election Commission has taken all-out measures to hold the election, and magistrates have been appointed at all the 33 wards of the city corporation, while motorcycles were banned in the city.
Seven candidates from seven political parties and two independent candidates are vying for the posts.
Returning officer Abdul Baten said campaigning in the election will end at 12am on Sunday, and 11 returning officers will perform their duties.
“Adequate Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) are at the ready, and if there is any issue while using EVMs, then the technical team will repair it quickly,” said Baten.
Law enforcement agencies have taken foolproof security ahead of the polls, while a three-tier security will be taken at each polling booth. 11 platoons of BGB will be deployed in each reserved ward, while RAB and striking force will remain there to ensure security.
Mobile courts will be conducted to check for any violations of the electoral code of conduct.
