Bangladesh and Vietnam have opportunities to complement each other for the development of the apparel industry and reap mutual trade benefits, said Pham Viet Chien, ambassador of Vietnam to Bangladesh.
He made the remarks during a meeting with Faruque Hassan, president of the Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), at the BGMEA Complex at Uttara in Dhaka yesterday.
They discussed various issues pertaining to the apparel industry of both countries, according to a press statement.
They also expressed interest in facilitating sharing of knowledge and expertise in the apparel and textile industry through collaboration between BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT) and Vietnamese apparel trade associations and fashion institutes.
They said interactions between designers and technical experts through exchange of faculties and students would help to develop knowledge and skills and benefit both countries.
On the occasion, BGMEA President Faruque said. “Bangladesh was strongly focusing on diversifying from low-price basic apparel items to high-end products, especially manmade fibre-based garments and Vietnam had vast experience in this segment and could share their expertise.
“On the other hand, Bangladesh made exemplary strides in the areas of workplace safety and environmental sustainability that could be shared with Vietnam.”
They discussed the present market situation, global trends and opportunities while sharing how both countries were addressing their own challenges.
The discussion also explored possible avenues of working together to unlock mutual trade potential through meaningful collaboration.
