Mir Akhter Hossain Ltd, Hego sign work package-3 deal

Mir Akhter Hossain Ltd and Chinese firm Hego signed the agreement for work package-3 of the South Asia Subregional Economic Cooperation Dhaka-Sylhet Corridor Road Development project on Wednesday.

Project Director AK Mohammad Fazlul Karim, Roads and Highways Department Additional Chief Engineer (Cumilla zone) Abu Hena Mohammed Tareq Iqbal, Mir Akhter Hossain Ltd’s Managing Director Mir Nasir Hossain, and Hego representatives signed the deal at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Dhaka.

The estimated cost of the project is Tk 1,232.95 crore. The project will be jointly implemented by Mir Akhter Hossain Ltd and Hego.

Under the package, around 34.8 kilometres of highway will be constructed in Brahmanbaria and Habiganj districts. Nearly 15.7 kilometres of flexible pavements will also be constructed.

Moreover, 11 culverts with a total length of 83.5 metres, 11 bridges with a total length of 968.2 metres, 5.24 kilometres of drainage, and 3,494.03 square metres of bus bays and rigid pavements of service lanes will be constructed. Besides, two foot overbridges will be constructed.

“We will maintain the required quality in construction and finish the work in due time,” said Mir Nasir Hossain at the agreement signing event.

New road projects are not needed now while the ongoing ones, including other construction projects, have to be finished, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said.

Contractors are not maintaining quality in the construction of four-lane roads, he said.

“The present government is business-friendly, and that is why we were able to create a good image in the world through the products made here in Bangladesh,” said Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Pran-RFL Group Ahsan Khan Chowdhury.

“Now we are working in the infrastructure sector, and will hopefully play a significant role there,” he added.

“During working hours, all stakeholders should keep an eye on the safety and security of workers as well as the mass people to avoid unexpected accidents,” said Rowshan Ara Mannan, a member of the Standing Committee on Road Transport and Bridges Ministry.

ABM Amin Ullah Nuri, secretary of the Road Transport and Highways Division; Md Mahbub Ali, state minister for civil aviation and tourism; ABM Amin Ullah Nuri, secretary of the Road Transport and Highways Division; and Asian Development Bank’s Bangladesh Country Director Edimon Ginting were present at the programme.
