Mir Cement Ltd is looking to expand the company’s production capacity from 2400 MT to 5000 MT within 2024 by setting up a new plant in its factory.
Set to complete 20 years of operation in the country in 2024, the company authorities made the decision to boost production amid rising demand for their product in the cement market.
“The first plant of Mir Cement Ltd was set up in 2003 in the Narayanganj district when the production capacity was 600MT per day. The capacity increased up to 2400 MT in 2018. In the last five years, we did not increase our production. Now we are establishing a third plant to increase production,” SM Rahmatuallah, executive director of Mir Group, told journalists visiting its factory on Monday.
Rahmatuallah said the company is looking to increase their market share from current 3 per cent to 5 per cent by next year. They increased production eight times more in the last 20 years.
“We are producing good quality products compared to others. So, our company is able to make a profit while many cement companies are going through a crisis,” he said.
He added that the company has a good research lab to test the cement. “We complete three-step tests before getting the products to customers, including raw material test, processing test, and final finishing test. We do it to reduce waste.”
Presenting a keynote paper, Mohammad Asadur Rahman, in-charge of Quality Assurance and Quality Control at Mir Cement, said the company import clinker from Thailand and Japan, gypsum from Oman and Thailand, slag from Japan, limestone from Oman and Thailand, and fly ash from India to produce cement.
He said, “We produce both Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) and Portland Composite Cement (PCC).
“In order to produce OPC, we use 95 per cent clinker and 5 per cent Gypsum. For producing PCC products, we use 65-79 percent clinker, 21-35 per cent limestone and slag, and 0-5 per cent gypsum.”
He added that they supply the cement across and even exports to India.
According to Bangladesh Cement Manufacturers Association (BCMA), per capita cement consumption in Bangladesh is about 182 kg. There are a total of 76 registered cement manufacturing companies in the country where the annual demand for cement is around 33 million tonnes.
