Argentina keen to boost bilateral trade with Bangladesh

An Argentine business delegation has shown interest to strengthen bi-lateral trade and commerce between Bangladesh and the South American country.

The delegation, led by Franco Agustín Senilliani Melchior, head of Economic and Trade Section of the Embassy of the Argentine Republic in India, expressed the interest at a meeting with Latin America-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LABCCI) at InterContinental Hotel in Dhaka on Monday.

LABCCI President Md Anwar Shawkat Afser said, “Argentina is interested to boost bilateral trade with Bangladesh. A high profile business delegation from Bangladesh including LABCCI members will visit Argentina and Brazil on 12-17 May next to strengthen relationship with the countries for the sake of economic development.”

He said the delegation, to be led by Salman Fazlur Rahman, private industry and investment adviser to Prime Minister’s Office, will also include the executive chairmen of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority and Bangladesh Economic Zones

LABCCI board of directors were also present in the meeting with the Argentine business delegation to Dhaka.

At present, the annual bilateral trade between Bangladesh and Argentina stands at more than $800 million. Bangladesh imported products worth $791.5 million from Argentina in FY2021-22, according to Bangladesh Bank data.

According to EPB data, Bangladesh exported products worth $9.29 million in July-January FY2022-23.
