Japan to provide $8.68m grant to improve technical education

Japan will provide $8.68 million in grant to Bangladesh for implementing a project titled ‘improvement of equipment for technical education’.

To this end, Secretary of the Economic Relations Division (ERD) Sharifa Khan and Chief Representative of JICA, Bangladesh Ichiguchi Tomohide signed the grant agreement on behalf of their respective countries, said a press release issued on Monday.

The grant will be utilised through the project for modernisation of laboratory equipment of Technical Teachers Training College (TTTC), Dhaka Polytechnic Institute (DPI) and Dhaka Mohila Polytechnic Institute (DMPI).

This grant will also be used for installation of the equipment and renovation of laboratory/workshop facilities and enhancing the capacity of teachers or instructors of the above-mentioned polytechnic institutes.

Japan is the single-largest bilateral development partner of Bangladesh. It has contributed significantly to the overall development of the country.

In addition to soft loans, Japan is also providing significant amounts of grant and technical assistance for different projects, including support to human resource development, socio-economic development and environmental protection.
