Women’s contribution key to building Smart Bangladesh

The contribution of women is crucial to build a Smart Bangladesh by 2041, so the county’s people should embrace workplace equity to ensure sustainable economic growth.

Speakers made the remark at the seminar titled “Creating & Embracing Equity in Workplace,” held to mark International Women’s Day, and jointly organised on Sunday by Japan Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce & Industry (JBCCI) and Japanese Commerce & Industry Association in Dhaka (JCIAD) at a city hotel.

Speaking as the chief guest, Embassy of Japan Charge d’affaires Tatsuya Machida further said, “In Bangladesh, women’s participation and contribution are gradually increasing, and I hope that it will grow more in the coming days.”

Two panel discussions were also held at the event. JBCCI Director, and also Founder and CEO of Howlader Maria & Co (HmAC) Maria Howlader moderated the session titled, “Smart Bangladesh - Opportunities and Challenges in Business.”

At this session, speakers shared the fact that there are a number of women entrepreneurs in Bangladesh who are doing very well, and women are equally contributing to the country’s economy alongside men.

JBCCI director and Director of TNY Legal Bangladesh Ltd Saori Fujimoto moderated another session titled “Creating & Embracing Equity in Workplace.” The panelists shared their personal work-related experiences and how women are evolving from their perspectives.

Humaira Azam, managing director and CEO of Trust Bank Ltd, explained that in today’s era, women are doing very well in their respective fields, and they are contributing a lot to the country’s economy.

JBCCI President Hikari Kawai delivered the welcome speech and discussed women’s contribution to the economy of Bangladesh.

Former JBCCI President Abdul Haque shared the brief story of JBCCI’s inception and its continuous support to promote bilateral trade and investment between Japan and Bangladesh.
