The High Court (HC) on Monday issued a rule questioning why ‘Joy Bangabandhu’ will not be included in the national slogan of Bangladesh.
The HC bench of Justice KM Kamrul Kader and Justice Khizir Hayat issued the rule.
Cabinet Secretary, Law Secretary, Education Secretary have been asked to respond to the rule in four weeks. Advocate Abdullah Al Harun Bhuiyan appeared for the writ petitioner in the court.
On November 12 last year, 13 lawyers, including advocate Abdullah Al Harun Bhuiyan Russell, filed the writ seeking instructions to amend the gazette of the national slogan 'Joy Bangla' and include 'Joy Bangabandhu' in it.
According to the writ, a gazette was issued to make ‘Joy Bangla’ the national slogan of Bangladesh. But looking at Bangladesh’s history, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman paved the way for the liberation of this country through a war. So ‘Joy Bangla’ without ‘Joy Bangabandhu’ should not be used as the national slogan.”
Earlier, on March 10, 2020, the HC bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan (late) and Justice KM Kamrul Kader ruled on the declaration of 'Joy Bangla' as the national slogan.
