Mild heat wave that is sweeping over Dhaka, Chattogram and Khulna divisions and the districts of Rajshahi, Pabna, Patua-khali and Bhola is likely to continue, according to the Met Office.

Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) in its latest bulletin said that the mild heat wave is likely to continue while rain and thunder showers activity may increase in the next five days.

The rains that usually fall in April and May have failed to materialise this year and the country has been gripped by unusually hot weather since the beginning of April.

Sweltering under a blistering sun, people across the country have been taking cover beneath any shelter they can find as they pray for cooling rains.

The weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy sky over the country, having chances of rain and thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind at one or two places over Rajshahi, Dhaka and Khulna divisions.

As the mild heat wave is sweeping across different parts of the country, physicians have advised people to avoid activity in direct sunlight to stay safe from heat stroke which can be as serious as a brain stroke if left untreated.

Day temperature may remain nearly unchanged and night temperature may rise slightly over the country, Met Office said, adding that no significant change is likely to appear in the next two days.

On Wednesday, Dhaka witnessed 35.2C, Rajshahi 34.5C, Rangpur 34.4C, Mymensingh 34.0C, Sylhet 35.2C, Chattogram 35.8, Khulna 35.0C and the highest 37.7C was recorded at Bandarban.

About the synoptic situation, BMD stated that the trough of westerly low persists over West Bengal to North Bay.
