Dipu Moni’s mother passes away

Rahima Wadud, mother of Awami League Joint General Secretary and Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni, has passed away (Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un) at the age of 98. She is the wife of language movement hero and Bangabandhu’s close associate late MA Wadud.

She breathed her last around 12 pm on Saturday at her residence in the city’s Kalabagan area, Dhaka Metropolitan South Awami League Office Secretary Riaz Uddin told the media. Rahima is survived by a son, a daughter, and many relatives and friends.

Education Minister Dipu Moni is currently on a state visit to the UK, and scheduled to return home Sunday morning. Insiders say the burial of Rahima Wadud will be carried out after Dipu Moni arrives home.

Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Rahima Wadud.

In a condolence message, he prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
