Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni on Monday said the government has started implementing the new curriculum to develop efficient and smart citizens, not mere clerks.
She came up with the remarks at the opening ceremony of Bangabandhu Creative Talent Search 2023 at the Government Teachers Training College in the capital.
“Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had said the education system of the colonial era was meant for making clerks. But the system is not for citizens of independent countries,” she said Dipu Moni said, “A clerical education system greatly limits the full development of each individual’s creativity. So, we are now trying to bring a radical change in the education system in the way shown by Bangabandhu.”
“We have created a new curriculum to transform the education system. The whole world is now trying to create new curricula by transforming education where Bangladesh is the pioneer,” she said
“We were able to start the implementation of the new curriculum this year by introducing it in class VI and class VII at the secondary level and class I at the primary level.”
“We will implement the entire curriculum by 2025 in all classes. Students will learn to practice creativity through the new curriculum and it will create efficient and smart citizens.”
The minister said students who have talent and creativity will have the opportunity to fully develop it with a little more care through the new curriculum.
In Bangabandhu Creative Talent Search Competition-2023, 135 students have been selected from eight divisions across the country and Dhaka city. These students participated in the national-level competition on the day. Fifteen best meritorious candidates will be selected in each of the five categories.
Secondary and Higher Education Division Secretary Suleman Khan presided over the opening ceremony.
