Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Tuesday said Bangladesh has made a progress in the digital realm and now remote areas of the country are reaping the benefits of Digital Bangladesh.
Recalling the introduction of the slogan "Digital Bangladesh" in 2008, which has propelled the nation's advancement on the path of technological development, the minister credited Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her ICT Advisor Sajeeb Wazed Joy for enabling Bangladesh to embrace the fourth industrial revolution encompassing information and communication technology, robotics, and artificial intelligence.
Hasan made the remarks while virtually addressing the launching ceremony of the book titled ‘Swapner Smart Bangladesh O Pradhanmantri Sheikh Hasina’ written by Dr Hafiz Md Hasan Babu, dean of Faculty of Engineering and Technology at Dhaka University.
Hasan Mahmud thanked the author for shedding light on the journey towards a Smart Bangladesh.
The event was held at the TSC Auditorium in Dhaka University former principal secretary to the prime minister Dr Kamal Abdun Naser Chowdhury, National Press Club President Farida Yasmin, and Prof Nizamul Haque Bhuiyan also spoke.
The book, comprising 23 chapters and spanning 392 pages, explores various aspects of building a Smart Bangladesh. It delves into topics such as smart citizenship, smart society, smart governance, and smart business, envisioning a comprehensive transformation of the nation.
Hafiz Md Hasan Babu in the book emphasised the importance of smart projects in addressing coastal climate change and disaster situations, as well as in the development of technology and science-dependent sectors.
The book also discusses government initiatives to promote innovation and entrepreneurship, the creation of advanced economic zones, and the enhancement of transport and communication infrastructure. Additionally, it underlines the need to safeguard Bangladesh's sovereignty and strengthen defence management.
