73 cases filed over tax evasion in April

The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) in April this year filed 73 cases regarding revenue evasion from airport, airfreight, Dhaka, Chattogram and other border areas, including Mongla and Benapole.

In these cases, the directorate found tax and duty evasion of Tk 29.21 crore against goods worth Tk 46.89 crore and it collected Tk 18.86 crore in additional taxes, said a report prepared by the CIID under the National Board of Revenue.

According to the report, the directorate settled 159 challans at the same time while the value of goods in these invoices was Tk 87.73 crore and payable customs duty against goods was Tk 59.27 crore. CIID collected additional revenue of Tk 25.53 crore against it.

During the period, CIID seized illegal goods worth Tk 8.12 crore while customs duty was Tk 31.27 lakh and additional revenue of Tk 57,148 has been collected, said the report.

Out of the total cases, 10 cases over revenue evasion were found in the airfreight circle against goods of Tk 15.72 crore while the amount of customs duty stood at Tk 2.70 crore and Tk 1.70 crore was collected additionally.

In this circle, 19 invoices were settled at the same time while the value of goods in these consignments is Tk 2.15 crore and the amount of payable customs duty against goods was Tk 6.11 crore and additional revenue of Tk 2.04 crore was collected.

Besides, 18 cases over revenue evasion against goods worth Tk 9.36 crore were unearthed in the Chattogram port circle while the amount of customs duty was Tk 2.76 crore and additional revenue of Tk 1.83 crore was collected by the circle office.

The circle, at the same time, settled 31 invoices against goods worth Tk 36.35 crore and the payable amount of customs duty was Tk 7.17 crore and it collected additional revenue of Tk 1.83 crore in April this year.

According to the report, additional revenue of Tk 12 crore was collected in 16 cases of revenue evasion and 30 settled challans in ICD circle. In Pangaon circle, Tk 16 crore was collected additionally against 23 cases of revenue evasion and 27 settled challans.

Four revenue evasion cases and 11 settled challans have resulted in additional revenue of Tk 6 crore in Benapole circle, said the report.

Besides, additional revenue has been collected in three (A, B, C) shifts of the airport, Chattogram airfreight circle, Sonamasjid land port, Khulna and Bhomra port circle.

However, no cases have been filed with the CIID headquarters, Mymensingh, Sylhet, Akhaura, Teknaf, Hili and Burimari circles. Hence, no additional revenue was collected, according to the report.
