Govt to procure 33 lakh MMBTu LNG, 12,500 tonnes sugar

The government on Wednesday approved procurement proposals of 12,500 tonnes of sugar, 80 lakh litres of soybean oil and over 33 lakh MMBTu of LNG.

The approvals came from this year’s 21st meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) held virtually with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair.

Briefing reporters after the meeting virtually, Cabinet Division additional secretary Sayeed Mahbub Khan said that the day's CCGP meeting approved a total of 12 proposals.

He said following two separate proposals from the commerce ministry, the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) would procure some 12,500 tonnes of sugar from a Singaporean company with around Tk 64.52 crore.

TCB would also procure some 80 lakh litres of soybean oil from City Edible Oil Company with around Tk 129.09 crore where per litre of soybean oil would cost Tk 161.37.

33.60 lakh MMBtu LNG from US

Following a proposal from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, Petrobangla would procure some 33.60 lakh MMBtu LNG from M/S Excelerate Energy LP, US with Tk 574.65 crore with per MMBtu LNG costing $13.9.

90,000 MTs of fertiliser

Mahbub said in three separate proposals, Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) under the Ministry of Industries would procure some 30,000 tonnes of bagged granular urea fertiliser from KAFCO, Bangladesh under the 19th lot with Tk 104.44 crore with per tonne fertiliser costing $319.8.

The BCIC would also procure 30,000 tonnes of bulk granular urea fertiliser from Fertiglobe Distribution, UAE in the 12th lot under state-level agreement for Tk 94.14 crore with per tonne costing $319.87. It would procure another 30,000 tonnes of bagged granular urea fertiliser from Muntajat, Qatar under the 17th lot under state-level agreement with around Tk 98.05 crore where per tonne fertiliser would cost $300.33.

Dhaka Elevated Expressway Project cost increased

The CCGP has approved a proposal to increase the cost of the ‘Support to Dhaka Elevated Expressway PPP’ project. by Tk 5,17,75,579.

Syeed Mahbub said the committee has approved a purchase proposal to increase the cost due to the variation to the joint venture ICT and DDC as the safety consultant of the project.

He said the joint venture of Mir Habib Alam and Mahabub Brothers Private has been awarded the package umber WP-03 with around Tk 129.64 crore under the project for Shariatpur-Janzira-Naodoba (Padma Bridge Approach) road development project.
