Pilgrims can carry $1,200 sans Hajj expenses

Both under the public and private management, Hajj pilgrims will be able to carry $1,200 excluding their Hajj expenses.

Banks have to follow proper rules in order to release this amount, said a circular issued by the Foreign Exchange Policy Department (FEPD) of Bangladesh Bank on Thursday.

The circular stated that travel quota would not be applicable in case of pilgrims taking foreign currency.

Now under the travel quota a traveller of Bangladesh can spend $12,000 in a year outside the county. For the current year, 57,585 pilgrims will be able to go for Hajj. This year, two packages were officially announced.
