Renowned industrialist and philanthropist Shamsur Rahman, founder chairman of Bay Group, has passed away on Monday while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Singapore. He left behind his wife, children, and countless admirers.

Rahman's first namaz-e-janaza will be held at the Institute of Leather Engineering and Technology ground in HazaribaghDhaka after the Zuhr prayer on Wednesday. The second namaz-e-janaza will take place at Dhaka’s Gulshan Central Mosque after the Maghrib prayer.

The third namaz-e-janaza will be held at the Government Shamsur Rahman College ground in Gosairhat, Shariatpur on Thursday after the Zuhr prayer, followed by his final namaz-e-janaza at his family graveyard.

Shamsur Rahman was born into a Muslim family in Gosairhat in April, 1942. He was a committed industrialist with over 40 years of experience in the leather industry. His father, Khalilur Rahman, and mother Safura Begum, were known for their philanthropy in Shariatpur. 

As the founder chairman of the Bay Group, Rahman was a visionary leader and a driving force behind the success and growth of the conglomerate. His dedication and hard work propelled the Bay Group to prominence in various sectors, symbolising his unwavering commitment to excellence.

Rahman's contributions were extended beyond the corporate world. He was deeply involved in social and philanthropic activities aimed at uplifting the underprivileged and marginalised sections of society. His initiatives in education, healthcare, and socio-economic development have left an indelible mark on the lives of many.

Throughout his illustrious career, Rahman held several notable positions, including vice president of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association and advisor to the Bangladesh Finished Leather, Leather Goods and Footwear Exporters’ Association (BFLLFEA).

His remarkable achievements were recognised with the prestigious National Export Trophy, which he won 16 times, acknowledging his significant contributions to the country's export sector.

In rural and underdeveloped areas, Shamsur Rahman established schools, colleges, madrasas, orphanages, hospitals, and many charitable institutions. He established the Government Shamsur Rahman College in Gosairhat Upazila of Shariatpur district.

Additionally, in the name of his mother, Safura Begum Women's College, Samantasar High School, Khalilur Rahman Fazil Madrasa, Safura Begum Children's Center, and Gauchia Fazil Madrasa in Mohammadpur, Dhaka were established.
