Former JU VC Prof Saleh Ahmed passes away

Former vice-chancellor of Jahangirnagar University Prof Dr Kazi Saleh Ahmed, from the Department of Statistics, has passed away.

He breathed his last around 5:55am on Tuesday [25 June] while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Dhanmondi, Dhaka, said his daughter Professor Mehrun Ahmed. Professor Kazi Saleh Ahmed, 83, is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter to mourn his death.

His first Namaj-e-Janaza was held after Zuhr prayers at Taqwa Mosque in Dhanmondi, followed by a second Namaz-e-Janaza after Asr prayers at the Central Mosque on the Jahangirnagar University campus, reads a press release.

Prof Dr Meherun Ahmed, on behalf of the family, has requested prayers for her father.

In remembrance of his passing, the Jahangirnagar University administration has set aside one day for mourning on Tuesday.

The university raised its black flag and flied its flag at half-mast on the entire day of mourning. Moreover, university classes aside from exams have been cancelled for the day.

Prof Dr Md Nurul Alam, the JU incumbent VC, expressed profound mourning and condolence. The Jahangirnagar University Department of Statistics Alumni Association (JUDSAA) mourns his loss deeply.
