Traffic on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway was disrupted for nearly an hour as a clash broke out between two factions of ruling Awami League injuring at least 30 in Cumilla's Chauddagram on Tuesday morning.
“A 10km long tailback has been created since 10:30am. The situation has started to normalise in the meantime. The district police is working on the matter,” Comilla Highway Police SP Muhammad Rahmat Ullah said.
Chauddagram police station Officer-in-Charge Shuvo Ranjan Chakma said that the clash ensued between the supporters of former Railway Minister Mujibul Haque and former municipal mayor Mizanur Rahman when the two groups tried to bring out protest procession and hold meeting at the same time over the death threat to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, leaving at least 30 people injured from both sides.
Meanwhile, the activists blocked the road and vandalized cars. They set fire to some vehicles. As a result, vehicular movement was halted on the highway.
