Friday's Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) rally turned the Dhaka University campus into a messy bus depot as all the activists who came to join the rally from across the country hiring buses and minivans chose to park on the campus.
Since morning, leaders and activists were seen flocking to the University area as the BCL rally was organized at the adjacent Suhrawardy Uddyan.
The vehicles were parked on the sports ground of the Kabi Jashimuddin Hall, Muhsin Hall and along the adjacent roads without taking any authorisation from the DU authority ruining public commutation.
Conversely, BCL leaders and activists who came from outside the city were seen gathering in the hall canteens. Moreover, some of the DU BCL leaders evicted students from the 'gono room' to let outsiders stay in the hall.
The influx of outsiders caused a shortage of rations and meals in the canteens.
Meanwhile, the Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall canteens cooked no meals for the boarding students though it took pre-orders from the occupying BCL leaders and activists.
Some activists came to the rally with food and dishes to cook which messed up the campus.
Talking to the students of Dhaka University, they said that they are feeling awkward due to this huge 'crowd and mismanagement' created for the BCL rally.
On the other hand, a resident female student posted on social media saying that she felt insecure when she went out to go to her tuition as outsiders were looking at her in an 'unusual way' repeatedly. Then she returned to the hall without going to tuition.
DU proctor Prof Makshudur Rahman said the influx did not cause much disruption and visiting members from several organisations previously have parked their vehicles within the compound without any authorisations.
Asked about the problems inside the halls, he said what happens in the halls is hardly his concern.
