The BNP has shifted the date for holding their rally in Dhaka from December 24 to December 30, following a request from the ruling Awami League.
However, except for Dhaka, the demonstration will be held all over the country on December 24, BNP Standing Committee Member Nazrul Islam Khan confirmed at a press conference at the BNP’s central office in Nayapaltan in Dhaka on Saturday.
Among others, the party’s Vice Chairman Mohammad Shahjahan, Joint Secretary Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Organising Secretary Abdus Salam and Syed Emran Saleh Prince, and Swechchhasebak Dal General Secretary Mir Sharafat Ali Sapu were present there.

Nazrul Islam Khan said, “The BNP does not want conflict, it wants a peaceful resolution of the ongoing crisis. Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader had urged us to change the schedule of our Dhaka rally, as the party will hold its 22nd national council on December 24.
“In this regard, on behalf of the BNP, we want to act politically. So, we have shifted our demonstration previously scheduled on December 24.”
He continued, “We have decided not to hold our mass rally in Dhaka on that day because the demonstration coincides with the Awami League Council. However, our scheduled demonstrations across the country – excluding the capital – will be held on December 24.
“Our rally in Dhaka, which was previously scheduled on December 24, will now be held on December 30.”
On December 10, BNP announced a countrywide mass procession from the rally held at Golapbagh field in the capital.
