BNP gets Suhrawardy Udyan to hold rally: Asaduzzaman

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Saturday said that BNP has been permitted to hold a rally on December 10 at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital since the location is suitable for mass gatherings.

"Dhaka Metropolitan Police agreed to permit the venue which they (BNP) wanted," he told the media after inaugurating the 2nd Sheikh Kamal SAARC Snooker Championship in the capital.

“They also wanted more alternate venues. The DMP thought that this location (Suhrawardy Udyan) is suitable, therefore they have permitted to hold the rally at this location,” the minister added.

Officially they (BNP) wanted three locations. They wanted to hold a rally in front of Parliament, but no one is allowed there, the minister said, adding BNP also wanted permission to use Suhrawardy Udyan, which was granted by DMP.

Awami League (AL) has some upcoming party programmes at this venue, the minister said, adding that BNP can use the venue after the AL's programmes.

Regarding BNP leaders' comment that the government will be forced to allow the rally at Naya Paltan, Kamal said, “The government has no obligation. The government has made arrangements that it thinks are the best.
