BNP has expelled its vice-chairman Shaukat Mahmood from the party.
Shaukat was dismissed from all posts and his primary membership of the party was cancelled as well, read a statement signed by BNP's Assistant Office Secretary Taiful Islam Tipu on Tuesday.
The party’s Standing Committee took the decision based on specific allegations of his involvement in activities that violated party discipline, it added.
On Monday, BNP issued a show cause notice to Shaukat Mahmood as he became the member secretary of the “National Committee for Civil Rights,” a platform launched by poet Farhad Mazhar.
