BNP’s income dipped significantly in 2023

BNP submitted its annual financial statement to the Election Commission (EC) for the 2023 calendar year on Monday, showing that the party spent Tk 2,54,43,819 more than its income.

According to the audit report, BNP's income decreased significantly last year, prompting the party to cover the surplus expenditure by drawing from its previous bank deposits.

BNP Chairperson's Advisory Council Member Bijon Kanti Sarker and Assistant Office Secretary Taipul Islam Tipu submitted the financial report to the Election Commission at Nirbachon Bhaban in the city around 12:30 pm.

According to the report, the BNP earned Tk 11,080,151 and spent Tk 36,523,970 in 2023.

In the 2022 calendar year, the party showed an income of Tk 5,92,04,632 against its expenditure of Tk 3,88,33,803.

The party's income saw a significant decline, while its expenditure also decreased slightly last year.

BNP stated that the main sources of its income were party members' subscriptions, donations, and interest from money deposited in banks.

The party also mentioned that the main areas of expenditure were salaries for its employees, expenses for political programmes, the printing of posters and leaflets, utility bills, newspaper advertisements, iftar parties, and financial assistance to the families of party leaders and activists who were subjected to enforced disappearance and killing.

As per law, each registered political party must submit its financial statement for the previous calendar year by July 31 each year.
