Ganosamhati Andolon has demanded that the list of loan defaulters, embezzlers, and money launderers be made publically available by June 30, or the party will organise a protest rally in front of the city’s Shapla Chattar.
The political party issued this ultimatum on Tuesday in front of the central bank after police foiled their attempt to besiege Bangladesh Bank around 11 am to place the above-mentioned demand.
Ganosamhati Andolon Central Executive Committee Chief Coordinator Zonayed Saki said, “The Bangladesh Bank is an important institution, and it believes we intend to cause harm. However, the regulator has already been harmed by its activities.
“When a government is legal, regulators follow rules and regulations. But when a government is illegal, its directives will be illegal too. People’s voice has no importance in an illegitimate regime.”
Saki added, “The country’s assets are being embezzled. We will return here [Shapla Chattar] if the central bank fails to take necessary actions. The actual amount of default loans must be published.
“Although Tk1.50 lakh crore is the official sum, the actual amount could be over Tk 4 lakh crore.”
He mentioned, “The $48 billion foreign exchange reserves milestone made the government proud. However, the current circumstances prevent the country from covering three months of imports because the usable foreign exchange reserves have dropped to less than $13 billion.
“An influential quarter embezzles money from banks and people are suffering for it.”
