A High Court division bench today fixed February 22 for hearing on a rule regarding constituency seats of Bangladeshi MP (Lakshmipur-2) Mohammad Shahid Islam Papul.
The High Court bench of Justice Gobinda Chandra Thakur and Justice Mohammad Ullah passed the order on Monday.
Advocate Sheikh Awsafur Rahman stood for the writ before the court against MP Papul.
Earlier on August 18 last year, the High Court issued a rule asking why the constituency seats of Papul should not be declared vacant.
Earlier on August 16, 2020, an independent candidate, who had run in the 2018 election from Laxmipur-2 constituency, filed the petition against Paplu-- the winner of the parliamentary seat also as an independent candidate.
A Kuwaiti court on January 28, 2021, sentenced Bangladeshi lawmaker Papul and four others to four years in jail in a bribery case. Besides, issuing the judgment, the court, headed by Counselor Abdullah Al-Othman, also fined them 1.9 million Kuwaiti dinars.
Earlier on December 27 last year, a Dhaka court granted bail to reserve seat lawmaker Selina Islam, wife of MP Papul, and their daughter Wafa Islam in a graft case.
Besides, the same court ordered to freeze 617 bank accounts and 92 deeds of immovable properties of MP Papul, and three others in a graft case.
On June 6 last year, Kuwait's Criminal Investigation Department arrested Papul on charges of human trafficking and money laundering.
MP Papul is now in the custody of Kuwait authority.
