BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia's press secretary Maruf Kamal Khan Sohel was relieved from his duties on Monday.
A letter in this regard was issued from the party's Nayapaltan central office, said BNP’s acting office secretary Syed Emran Saleh Prince.
"Our party has decided to relieve him (Maruf Kamal) from his duties. I was instructed to inform him about the decision. So, I have sent a letter in this regard to Gulshan office,” Prince said.
He said their party made the decision for various reasons, including the negligence of duties. “He (Maruf Kamal) didn’t go to his workplace (BNP Chairperson’s Gulshan office) since February 2018. He has long been neglecting his duties.”
Party sources said BNP high-ups got annoyed at Maruf Kamal as he gave different posts on his Facebook criticising party senior leaders for their failure in the movement for freeing Khaleda Zia from jail.
BNP standing committee members at their last meeting discussed the matter and took the decision to relieve Maruf Kamal from his charge as Khaleda’s press secretary.
As Khaleda Zia was elected Prime Minister in 2001, Maruf Kamal Khan was made her deputy press secretary.
He was made the BNP chairperson’s press secretary in 2009.
