BNP senior leader Mirza Abbas was admitted to Evercare Hospital in Dhaka early Wednesday after he felt chest pain.

Abbas, a BNP standing committee member, is undergoing treatment at the coronary care unit of the hospital under Dr Md Shahabuddin Talukder, confirmed BNP Health Affairs Secretary Dr Rafiqul Islam.

The senior BNP leader was feeling severe chest pain since Tuesday afternoon, he said.

“Later, he was taken to the hospital. After doing some tests, physicians suggested keeping him at the CCU,” Dr Rafiqul added.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is also undergoing treatment at the same hospital.

The former prime minister was readmitted there on Saturday six days after she had returned home from the hospital.

Her physicians said she has been suffering from rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, ophthalmological and dental complications.

A physician at her medical team said Khaleda is now suffering from a critical cardiac problem while her blood sugar is out of control and hemoglobin level in her blood has dropped.
