Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal on Wednesday said that the election commission will examine the reasons behind the slow voting through EVM during the Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) polls.
“Some problems have been reported in the Rangpur City Corporation election. We’ve got complaints of slow vote casting through EVMs (electronic voting machines),” the CEC told the reporters after a post-election meeting of RpCC at the Election Commission Bhaban.
“EC does not want to see such problems in future. So, discussions are ongoing with all parties,” he said.
Although there had been fewer fingerprint problems in the RpCC election, the vote casting was slow due to various reasons, said the CEC.
Measures will be taken to eliminate the problems of voting through EVMs and it will be discussed with the technical committee, he said, adding that the Election Commission wants transparent, free, neutral and participatory elections.
Earlier, the reporters who went to cover the RpCC election informed the EC about various errors and irregularities they detected on the polling day.
In the meeting, they described their experiences in the RpCC polls and said the voters were barred from casting votes, errors in EVMs were detected, and the presiding officers did not cooperate.
The returningofficer, assistant returning officers, and election observers of the recent RpCC elections also participated in this meeting.
