Covid-19 negative certificate: 100 plus Bangladeshis stranded at Benapole

More than 100  Bangladeshi citizens returning from India are stuck at Benapole International check-post for not having Covid-19 negative certificates.

These passengers were seen standing helplessly at the Benapole check-post from 6 am to 2 pm. A huge chunk of them went to India for treatment and are severely ill.

According to the stranded passengers, they did not know they needed a recent Covid negative certificate from India to enter Bangladesh.

Officer-In-Charge of Benapole Checkpost Immigration Mohsin Ali said to The Business Post, ”Passengers with no Covid-19 certificate won't be allowed to enter Bangladesh from today as an attempt to combat the second wave of Covid-19.”

He also added that they cannot do anything for passengers with no certificates.

However, the passengers demanded the government should let them in under special condition as the issue wasn’t made clear to them before.
