Petrol pump part-timer set on fire by coworker, dies

A petrol pump operator, who was set on fire allegedly by one of his coworkers in Jurain area of the capital city, has succumbed to his burn injuries early Saturday.

Riyad Hossain, 20, breathed his last around 12:45am while undergoing treatment at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka.

Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police outpost, confirmed the news to the media.

Besides the job at Salahuddin Filling Station, the victim took admission in honours programme in Siddheswari College this year.

According to police, the victim’s coworker Mahmudul Hasan Emon, 22, set him on fire after pouring octane on Wednesday.

Police arrested Emon and two other operators—Fahad Ahmed Pavel, 28 and Shahidul Islam Rony, 18 in a case filed by the deceased’s father.
