The ongoing severe heatwave is likely to continue in five districts and mild to moderate heatwave in parts of the country, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said in a forecast for the next 24 hours commencing at 9am Saturday.

"Severe heatwave is sweeping over the districts of Rajshahi, Dinajpur, Nilphamari, Jashore and Chuadanga. Mild to moderate heatwave is sweeping over Dhaka and Barishal divisions and the rest parts of Rangpur, Rajshahi and Khulna divisions and the districts of Mymensingh, Moulvibazar, Chandpur, Noakhali and Feni and it may continue," it said.

According to the forecast, rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at one or two places over Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country.

Day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged over the country.

The country's maximum temperature on Friday was recorded at 40.5 degrees Celsius in Rajshahi and the minimum temperature on Saturday was recorded at 24 degrees Celsius in Sylhet.

The sun sets at 6:43pm on Saturday and rises at 5:11am on Sunday in Dhaka.
